This house is the historically listed William Leslie House circa 1855. Believed to be constructed by William Leslie a local carpenter. The house was sold in 1855 to Alexander Buchanan Reeve of North Dumfries and Wealthy Businessman who leased it to a family member. In 1872 the house was sold to R.P. Slater who became a counselor in Galt and a wealthy businessman. He eventually became mayor of Niagara Falls. He is also credited with convincing the Ontario government to produce their own Hydro electricity rather than purchasing it from the U.S. R.P. Slater's grandfather was possibly involved in the burning and setting adrift of the American ship the Caroline in an attempt to destroy supplies being provided by American sympathizers during the rebellion of 1837. The house was sold in 1901 to Alexander Baird a Foreman at a local foundry. His brother Jack Baird painted beautiful murals throughout the house.(they were painted over and removed by later owners.)
